For cats and cakes, visit Meow Me Cat House, where you can enjoy the company of adorable cats without paying an entrance or cover fee. The experience doesn’t come entirely free, though, as you have to spend a minimum of RM8 to secure a seat in the cafe.

We especially loved the Tiramisu Latte (RM15), a bittersweet iced latte topped with creamy mascarpone, cocoa powder, and ladyfingers. If you’re looking for a light bite, go for the Basque Burnt Cheesecake (RM18), a creamy and hearty treat that’s perfect for two people.

For a cafe nearer to the customs, check out Chucky Cat Cafe. With an outlet at Komtar JBCC and another at Paradigm Mall, you don’t have to worry about travelling far to pet some cuddly cats. A one-hour pass costs RM24.90, while the day pass is priced at RM69

Food is pretty affordable here: an Iced Matcha Latte costs RM10.90, and a Pear White Peach Fruit Tea costs RM11.90. For an indulgent treat, try the Biscoff Croffle (RM15.90), that’s served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a generous amount of crushed Biscoff cookies.

Tucked away further in the city is Ohayo Cat Cafe, best known for its chunky rescued cats.

If you’re feeling peckish after a day of travelling around the city, the cafe’s extensive menu has you covered. For those going during lunch or dinner time, opt for the Japanese Curry Donburi (RM15) or Mala Noodles (RM10). If not, their Matcha Burnt Cheesecake (RM15), Fresh Grapes Napoleon (RM9), or Fresh Strawberry Tart (RM7) are also great options for a light snack. Even better, the Matcha Latte here is served in a large cup for just RM9, so you’ll definitely get a bang for your buck here.

Located at JB hotspot Mount Austin is Cat Times. Pay an entry fee of RM10 for access to its two-storey cosy sakura-themed cafe that houses 20 resident cats, including Siamese and Ragdoll breeds.

For light bites, head to the second floor to enjoy drinks such as the Iced Latte (RM15), Yuzu Rose Soda (RM15), or indulge in mains such as the Unagi Rice (RM26) that’s served with a thick slice of unagi, tamagoyaki, and Japanese yellow pickled radish atop Japanese pearl rice.

Located a 20-minute drive from JB customs is Choco Neko, a quaint Japanese-style cafe home to six resident cats.

To cuddle with the cats, a minimum spend of RM10 is required, which isn’t hard to hit since the menu items are priced starting from RM8 for a Choux Au Craquelin Cream Puff. For drinks, an Iced White costs RM14, and a Matcha Latte is priced at RM16.

Get trendy drinks here such as the Strawberry Matcha Latte (price TBD), which features a blend of creamy matcha and rich strawberry paste that’s mildly sweet. Matcha enthusiasts will be elated to hear that the Matcha Latte is made with Niko Neko powder and costs only RM16—a steal for good quality matcha. If you’re more of a dog than a cat person, head to Chill ‘N Chow in Mount Austin. Access to the first and second floors of the cafe costs RM43 on weekdays, and RM52 on weekends. If you purchase access to both floors of the cafe, you can enjoy complimentary drink and a scoop of ice cream in Signature Coconut, Chocolate, or Vanilla flavours, perfect for the sweltering weather!

Enjoy the company of fluffy chow chows all while sipping a warm cup of Chai Latte (price TBD) or Oolong Rose Tea (price TBD) here. BTW, Chill ‘N Chow doesn’t accept reservations, so we recommend visiting earlier to secure a spot for yourself. Socks are also required here so make sure you bring a pair along.

If you can’t get enough chow chows, head to Chow Q 2.0, dubbed the largest dog cafe in JB. Besides a huge two-storey building with cute dogs living in it, expect a massive outdoor play area that houses a swimming pool, an al fresco dining area and more.

A personal favourite of mine is Corgi’s Talk Cafe, famous for their fluffy short-legged furry friends and resident husky. Each session runs for an hour, with rates going at RM22 per adult and RM16 per child, but if you order one main course and a drink, you can spend time with the dogs without paying a cover fee!

Expect a wide range of food here, including the Creamy Butter Chicken Rice (RM18) and Grilled Chicken Chop (RM24.80), with the latter served with a side of fries, garden salad, and a sunny-side-egg. To wash down the grease, get the classic Latte (RM12) or refreshing Sparkling Peach (RM13)

Shi-ba Cafe needs to introduction. Also nestled in Mount Austin, it prides itself on being the first shiba cafe in Malaysia. If you’re not the biggest fan of Shiba Inus, the cafe also has German Shepherds, Alaskan Malamutes, and Corgis, so you can interact with a mix of breeds. Entry fees are slightly higher here, with a one-hour session costing RM38
