1. Warung Makan Bu Rus
Warung Makan Bu Rus is considered one of the best nasi campur eateries in Ubud, and yet its prices are super affordable. It’s set amid a lush garden, with seating options both indoors and outdoors. As you take in the wonderful ambience, feast on the Nasi Campur Ayam (IDR45K/~S$3.47), which includes a generous serving of local vegetables, egg, spicy tempeh, peanuts, a minced chicken skewer, and curry chicken, all accompanied by white rice. 2. Warung Biah Biah
The homely eats at Warung Biah Biah are both delicious and value-for-money. Go for the Nasi Goreng Babi Kecap (IDR38K/~S$2.93), a fried rice dish served on top of a banana leaf and crowned with stir-fried pork bits marinated in sweet soy sauce, along with chilli, spring onions, and a fried egg. It comes with a side of Indonesian salad and crispy keropok, too. Another great pick here is the Ayam Sambal Matah (IDR12K/~S$0.92), which is stir-fried chicken mixed with onions and chilli.

3. Daily Baguette
The above picture may bring to mind expensive cafe fare, but in truth, it is anything but. Daily Baguette’s French-inspired bakes are super affordable, and you can enjoy them in a spacious outdoor terrace with a view of the Puri Lukisan Museum of Balinese Arts. Some bakes we recommend include the Banana Cake (IDR 10K/~$0.77), Mini Pain Au Chocolat (IDR12K/~S$0.92), and Creme Brulee (IDR25K/~S$1.93), consisting of a thin crust that envelops a centre made of caramelised egg, delicately sprinkled with powdered sugar.

4. In Da Compound Warung
At In Da Compound Warung, animals such as cats, birds, and even free-roaming rabbits are a common sight. Perhaps more pertinent is the common sight of cheap food items at this restaurant. The Soto Ayam, a generous bowl of bee hoon soaked in a flavourful clear broth and topped with shredded chicken, will set you back a mere IDR35K (~S$2.70). For something less hearty, you can try the Dadar Gulung (IDR25K/~S$1.93), a traditional pancake dessert filled with grated coconut and brown sugar.

5. Sawobali
Buffets this cheap don’t grow on trees—at just IDR70K (~S$5.39) per person, you can have all the food you want at Sawobali’s plant-based buffet. With over 10 different local dishes to choose from, including glass noodles, eggplant, potatoes, tempeh, tofu and more, this is perfect for those who prefer their buffets simple, homely, and plenty hearty. You’ll have to pay for the meal in advance, though, and do note that there’s a one-hour dining time limit.

6. Warung Rama in Ubud

Tucked away in a quiet part of Ubud, Warung Rama is a cosy spot that’s big on flavour and easy on the wallet. Locals and in-the-know travellers come here for their generously portioned Nasi Campur (IDR40K/~S$3.58), made with fresh ingredients sourced daily from the markets.
A crowd favourite is the Nasi Kuning, where fragrant yellow rice comes with shredded chicken, spinach, bean sprouts, thin egg strips, cucumber, tomato, sambal, and a sweet-savoury mix of peanuts and shredded coconut. There’s also a vegetarian version that swaps out the chicken for a fried egg.

7. Made’s Warung
Fans of Made’s Warung hail it as one of the best restaurants in Bali for Gado-Gado (IDR40K++/~S$3.65++). It’s a striking combination of sweet, spicy, and savoury flavours, and is drenched in a creamy sauce made using ground peanuts, spices, herbs, sweet soya sauce, and coconut milk. 8. Warung Leka-Leka
There are two great things about Warung Leka-Leka: one, it’s a hidden gem that isn’t absolutely swarmed with tourists, and two, its food offerings are affordable and delectable. Take the Ayam Betutu (IDR45K/~S$4.10), for instance, comprising a quarter chicken spiced with bumbu betutu and served with rice. The combination of aromatic spices and succulent chicken makes this a hit with the restaurant’s regulars. Another affordable option is the Beef Rendang (IDR45K/~S$4.10), which has tender beef elevated by fragrant rempah.

9. Pisang Goreng Gendut
Cheap, yummy, and oh-so-decadent banana fritters—that’s what you’re getting at Pisang Goreng Gendut. Fans rave about the Pisang Goreng Original (IDR30K/~S$2.34), which consists of deep-fried dough balls filled with mashed overripe bananas. For a more local experience, Pasar Kreneng is where you’ll want to head. This huge traditional market in Denpasar has major pasar malam vibes once the sun sets. Think rows of sizzling food stalls, plastic stools, and a constant buzz of chatter from locals tucking into their dinner.

Known for its affordable nasi campur, Warung Sika has its colourful dishes placed in a display window, so that you can customise your filling meal to your liking. To give you an idea of how cheap the food here is, a plate of yellow rice, tempeh, and mixed vegetables only costs IDR33K (~S$2.96), while a serving of red rice with vegetables, one fried chicken, and one ayam bakar will set you back just IDR47K (~S$4.22). Mie And More is one of the pricier places on this list, with most of its noodle dishes hovering around the S$5 mark. If you’re near Sanur, make a beeline for Warung Mak Beng. It’s a legendary spot that’s been around since 1941. The menu here is famously no-frills: you get a set of rice, ikan laut goreng (fried fish), and soup kepala ikan laut (fish head soup), all for just IDR55K (~S$4.23).
