Fans who’ve flown all the way to Tokyo just to queue for I’m Donut? can start saving on airfare. The popular Japanese bakery, known for its famously pillowy nama doughnuts, has confirmed that its first outlet in Malaysia will open in Kuala Lumpur (KL) on 12 September 2026.

The upcoming outlet is set to open at The Exchange TRX Mall, which comes hot on the heels of Ombak KLCC‘s launch.

What sets the brand apart is its nama doughnut: a brioche dough that’s proofed and fried to be noticeably lighter and airier than a typical fried doughnut. Every doughnut is handcrafted daily on-site, toppings included.

Since opening its first store in Tokyo, Nakameguro, the brand has expanded to multiple outlets across Japan, and its cult status has followed it overseas. The lines at I’m Donut’s Tokyo branches are said to stretch up to three hours long!

Malaysia’s specific menu hasn’t been locked in, but based on past openings, expect a rotation built around the brand’s core fillings, such as pistachio cream, rich custard, double chocolate, and matcha, alongside a handful of city-exclusive creations.
For now, all we can do is wait for I’m Donut? to reveal the finer details.
