Restaurants
1. Wild Coco

Wild Coco started as a kopitiam stall on McNair Road, and today, they have four outlets—their Bendemeer outlet features a tropical theme and a bar counter. Since they are best known for their nasi lemak, it’s a must to get the Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah Leg ($17.90++). The chicken leg is marinated with ingredients such as ginger and lemongrass for more than a day, so you can expect juicy, well-seasoned chicken meat. We also recommend getting a side of their Nyonya Assam Eggplant ($12.90++) featuring eggplants doused in a slightly sweet and spicy house-made paste.

2. Prince Noodles

Finding legit KL-style ban mian in Singapore is not the easiest, but Prince Noodles comes through with their incredible handmade noodles. There are three noodle options here: ban mian, you mian, and mee hoon kueh. For starters, you must try the Dry Ban Mian ($6.50++), starring thick, chewy strands of ban mian topped with a dark, savoury sauce. Here’s a tip: add a bit of their house-made chilli sauce to zhng up the flavours! A little goes a long way with this sauce as it’s very punchy. If you prefer soup to dry, opt for the Soup Mee Hoon Kueh ($6.50++) instead. During our visit, we appreciated that the uneven hand-pulled noodles remained QQ even after being submerged in piping hot soup.

3. HUE

You might want to think twice before joining the insanely long queues for the tom yum noodles at the famed Jeh-O-Chula in Thailand, as we now have HUE in Singapore. Their rendition of the famous tom yum instant noodles, the Mama Mia! ($22++), comes with springy noodles bathed in a fragrant tom yum broth, paired with prawns, squid, mussels, and house-made meatballs.
The restaurant also has their own fair share of innovative creations such as the Egg-e-egg-egg ($19++), which is reminiscent of Scotch egg that’s paired with Thai flavours.
HUE is an eight-minute walk from the train station.

4. Abundance

Abundance is a Taiwanese cafe with three outlets, one in Redhill, Tampines, and their flagship outlet in Bendemeer. Here, you can find modernised takes on well-loved Taiwanese classics, which we will get into.
The Mala Popcorn Chicken ($9++) is a great example—these popcorn chicken bites have just the right amount of spice to pack a punch without leaving you sweating buckets. The well-loved lu rou fan has a beef version here, which is not common in Singapore. The Braised Beef Bowl ($16.90++) features perfectly braised beef shank that pairs wonderfully with rice.
To end off your meal, go for the Black Sesame Ice Cream Roll ($6.90++) made with their house-made black sesame paste and enveloped in a thin layer of popiah skin.

5. Keong Saik Bakery

Keong Saik Bakery is a favourite of many of us in the team, mainly because the cafe is a stone’s throw away from our office, and there are more than 20 different bakes to try. During our recent visit, we enjoyed their Mini Truffle Potato Clairssant ($7++), featuring a flaky croissant pastry zhnged up into an eclair hybrid. It’s loaded with truffle-infused cheese, tender boiled potatoes, and topped with even more cheddar cheese. Wash it all down with the Iced Kaya Latte ($9.50++), featuring robust espresso and strong notes of pandan and coconut.

6. SYIP

Standing right across from Keong Saik Bakery is SYIP, a minimalist, spacious cafe with good coffee and hearty mains. If you love rosti, we recommend the Octopus Mentaiko Rosti ($26++) starring potato rosti with a charred octopus leg and ikura, then topped with bonito flakes and dressed with mentaiko mayo. Pair your meal with one of their drinks from the signature milk series, such as Raspberry Pistachio ($8++) or Hojicha Goma ($8++). There are also plant-based milk alternatives here, including oat milk ($1) and soy milk ($1).

7. Diff

Diff is a specialty coffee stall serving brews and matcha that don’t break the bank. Truly a hidden gem, it’s tucked inside an open-air food court within an office building. On our visit, we tried the Iced Black ($5.50++), a smooth and light classic with a citrusy finish, courtesy of the Kenyan beans it was brewed with. As the bean selection changes every couple of months, diners can expect a slightly different cup each visit. We also got their seasonal Earl Grey Matcha (price TBD), a well-balanced matcha starring hints of bergamot and floral notes from the tea that blends nicely with the soft bitterness of the matcha.

8. Kali Kali

Right opposite Diff lies Kali Kali, a bakery serving up a wide array of fresh bagels. Baked fresh on-site daily, the bagels are handmade using halal-sourced ingredients. Taking inspo from the trendy shio pan, they possess a distinct crust and buttery base. If you’re spoilt for choice, consider the Bagel & Schmear Set ($6.50++) with three savoury and three sweet bagel flavours to choose from. Our top pick would be the Pandan Gula Melaka bagel, paired with Strawberry Schmear. The former features a glossy gula melaka coating, which pairs nicely with the tangy schmear on the side.

9. Eat 3 Bowls

Eat 3 Bowls is known for their homely traditional Taiwanese cuisine. They have several outlets in Singapore, but the one in Bendemeer sports its own unique look—it has a retro feel complete with old movie posters, neon signs, and wooden furniture. The Eat 3 Bowls ($13.80++) set consists of their three signature dishes, perfect for those who cannot decide what to order. The signature dishes are: Braised Pork Rice, Chicken Rice, and Oyster Intestines Mee Sua.

Pair a Single Scoop ($5) or a Double Scoop ($9) with the Buttermilk Waffles ($6) for a filling treat. Do note that there’s also an additional charge of $1 if you choose to get their premium flavours. 11. Moonchild

Moonchild is a cool cafe concept by the same folks behind Atlas Coffeehouse. Their menu is divided into two: one running from breakfast to midday, and subsequently, from midday to dinner. If you are a potato fanatic, try the Potato Stack, Smoked Salmon & Poached Eggs ($21.90++), which is a combination of rosti and Eggs Benedict.
From the midday menu, they have the usual rotation of cafe must-haves, including salads, sandwiches, and pastas, but they also have something more unique such as the Pork Dan-Dan Scallion Noodles ($21.90++), based on the popular Sichuan classic. Alternatively, if you are more of a rice person, opt for the Golden Karei Don ($21.90++), starring seared soy-glazed halibut, shimeiji tofu, wok kai lan, and a crisp kai lan leaf, topped with a runny egg yolk.

12. Chye Seng Huat Hardware (CSHH) Coffee Bar

What looks like an old hardware store from its exterior is actually Chye Seng Huat Hardware (CSSH), a bustling coffee bar with industrial vibes. FYI, they are the flagship store of PPP Coffee, a specialty coffee roaster.
With plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, the cafe is a great place to enjoy brunch. Enjoy a Flat White (from $6.20++) or their various types of Cold Brew Coffees starting from $7.50++. For a hearty breakfast, go for Papa’s Breakfast ($27++) which comes with pork sausage, your preferred choice of eggs, portobello mushrooms, seasonal greens, multigrain toast, and tomato jam. You can also enjoy their all-day breakfast menu, which extends until 4pm daily.

14. OMMA Chicken Soup

Samgyetang fans would be no stranger to the popular OMMA Chicken Soup. Whipping up affordable and comforting chicken soup, the brand currently has 15 stalls islandwide, with one that just opened at Bendemeer Market and Food Centre. Everything on Omma’s menu is priced under $8, truly a steal for their nourishing slow-simmered broths and massive fall-off-the-bone chicken. We recommend trying the Ginseng Omma ($7.80), a crowd favourite for its clean and naturally sweet broth.
If you’re not a fan of ginseng, get the Sesame Omma ($7.30) or Kimchi Omma ($7.80) instead, best paired with their Signature Kimchi ($1.20) for a spicy kick. Porridge fans can also opt for the Collagen Porridge ($4.90), served with shredded chicken and cucumbers for a wholesome and hearty meal.

16. Fu Quan Mixed Vegetables Rice

If you’re sceptical as to how good a plate of economy rice can get, you might find the answer to this question at Fu Quan Mixed Vegetables Rice, nestled in Bendemeer Food Centre. For $3.50, we got a plate of rice with Sweet and Sour Pork, Egg Tofu, and Cabbage with Tang Hoon. Our favourite liao was the pork; the meat was tender yet crispy, and there was a nice balance of sweet and sour flavours. Pay a little more, and you can get yourself Braised Pork Belly, Stir-fried Potatoes with Sausages, and Curry Cabbage for $5.20. We particularly enjoyed the latter as it was fragrant and smooth.
