Mercedes-Benz Singapore gives the GLB a full hybrid variant

The new Mercedes-Benz GLB high-tech hybrid has arrived in Singapore, extending the second-generation SUV range beyond the electric versions introduced here in June 2026.

Two trim levels for the GLB180 are offered: Progressive and AMG Line. Both use front-wheel drive and a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 130bhp and 200Nm, paired with a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. An integrated electric motor can contribute a further 22kW and 200Nm.

This is more than a conventional engine start-stop arrangement. Supplied by a 1.3kWh lithium-ion battery, the 48V system allows the GLB to move using electric power in certain urban conditions. It can also coast with the combustion engine disconnected at speeds of up to approximately 100km/h, while recuperating as much as 25kW during braking and deceleration.

The result is a claimed combined fuel consumption figure of 16km/100L. The GLB completes the century sprint in 11.4 seconds, reaches a top speed of 191km/h and falls within Singapore’s C1 VES band.

Its electrified drivetrain has not displaced the feature that distinguishes the GLB from many compact SUVs: A third row of seats. There is room for up to seven occupants, while luggage capacity starts at 540 litres and expands to 1,715 litres with all rear seats folded.

The cabin combines a 10.25-inch driver’s display with a 14-inch central touchscreen. The fourth-generation MBUX system runs on the Mercedes-Benz Operating System and incorporates services from Microsoft and Google, including Google Maps navigation and an AI-powered virtual assistant.

Distance Assist Distronic is standard, alongside Lane Keeping, Blind Spot Assist Plus and parking assistance. Buyers can also specify MB.Drive Assist, which adds Steering Assist to provide SAE Level 2 driver assistance.

The GLB180 was announced at a launch price starting from $293,888.
