For the uninitiated, Mr CHEESECAKE is a Tokyo-born cheesecake brand founded by Chef Koji Tamura, who has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants, including three-Michelin-starred Mirazur in France and one-Michelin-starred Restaurant ES in Paris. Since its launch in 2018, Mr CHEESECAKE has expanded to five stores in Japan and one in Hong Kong, selling over 1 million cakes to date.
Their cheesecakes are meant to be savoured at three different temperatures: frozen for a mouthfeel that’s similar to ice cream cake, fully thawed for a smoothness similar to creme brulee, and half-thawed for a mix of both textures.

Their best-seller is the BASQUE CHEESECAKE Original ($62), which boasts a toasted, caramelly exterior, a result of baking the batter at a high temperature, and a smooth, creamy interior with real vanilla specks. The combination of browned butter, vanilla, and brown sugar is said to give the cake a butterscotch aroma that’s best enjoyed with a cup of hot coffee.

Those looking to amp up the coffee flavour should order the Mr CHEESECAKE Cream Brew Coffee ($68), comprising coffee beans steeped in the same cheesecake mixture, which lends the cheesecake a rich, earthy, and slightly fruity flavour.

Of course, matcha lovers can also get their cheesecake fix with the Mr CHEESECAKE Matcha ($69). It features stone-ground Yame matcha from Fukuoka, prized for its mellow sweetness and rich umami flavour, complemented with creamy mascarpone, vanilla, and fruity extra-virgin olive oil for a decadent yet refreshing treat.

For a more tropical variant, the Mr CHEESECAKE Sakekasu Coconut ($69) combines rich coconut, refreshing lychee puree, and umami sakekasu, AKA sake lees, for a cake that’s not too sweet.

Those who aren’t too keen on cheesecake can opt for their RICH TIRAMISU ($69) instead—their interpretation of the Italian classic. Expect a delicate, crisp almond dacquoise layered with a light, mousse-like cream flavoured with coffee, cacao, and hojicha, further enhanced by the nutty aroma of browned butter.
Do take note that the cakes are available while stocks last, so it’s worth getting there early.
