Fans of sheng jian bao, listen up: Ging Sun Ho, the popular Hong Kong chain known for its Shanghainese cuisine, is launching a version of the pan-fried bun that’s inspired by Japanese curry rice. Available from 28 March to 31 May 2025, this new item is available exclusively at the brand’s Tampines Mall outlet.

Named the Japanese Curry Pan-Fried Chicken Soup Bun ($6+ for three pieces), this sheng jian bao features a crispy curry-infused dough exterior, with a flavourful interior of juicy chicken, carrots, and potatoes. It also includes apple puree and a blend of spices to bring it as close to the kare raisu experience as possible.
If you can’t wait till 28 March to try the interesting new dish, we think it’s worth dropping by Ging Sun Ho anyway to check out their Signature Pan-Fried Pork Soup Bun ($5.80+).
Handmade fresh on-site and served in a set of three, these generously sized buns are filled with a rich pork and soup mixture that bursts with flavour upon the first bite. These buns can be seriously explosive, so be careful not to get the soup onto yourself when tucking in!
Other dishes worth checking out here include the Ging Sun Ho Dan Dan Noodles ($9.80++), which has an addictive broth that’s nutty, creamy, and spicy at the same time; Signature Pork Chop with Veg Rice ($13++), where a slab of boneless fried pork chop is paired with the brand’s house-made veggie rice; and Pork and Chive Wontons in Spicy Sauce ($8++ for six), all tossed in a piquant, mala-esque chili oil. Consider supplementing your sheng jian bao with these treats!
