Life Coffee has $3.80 matcha latte at Amoy Street Food Centre

This unassuming establishment may look like just another hawker kopi stall. Still, Life Coffee in Amoy Street Food Centre boasts an extensive menu of matcha latte creations that are incredibly affordable—all priced at $3.80.

The matcha used here is from Uji, Kyoto, and while it might not be ceremonial grade, the lattes here certainly mirror those found in more upscale cafes. And for $3.80 in the heart of the CBD—what more could you ask for?

We tried the regular Matcha Latte, which we thought had the right amount of astringency in its matcha. While it was slightly milk-forward, it was still a surprisingly tasty and serviceable matcha for a coffeeshop stall.

You can also find other variations of the regular latte, such as the cult-favourite Matcha Strawberry Latte, Matcha Mango, Caramel Matcha Latte, and Honey Lemon Matcha, among others.

There are also a bunch of hojicha options for those who prefer roasted tea. We tried the Egg Cream Hojicha Latte, which had strong roasted notes along with a creamy, smooth texture. Other hojicha options include the Honey Hojicha, Caramel Hojicha, Salted Cream Cheese Hojicha and more.

Life Coffee also has a variety of regular kopi stall items, but I was most intrigued by the Vietnamese Drip Coffee (from $2.50). Unfortunately, they no longer serve it with the traditional phin filter, which was the main draw. While the Vietnamese robusta used here was indeed strong and intense, it had more sour notes that I found to be rather unappealing.

I also noticed many customers ordering the Four Layer Coffee ($3), served ice-cold with distinct layers of kopi O, teh, condensed milk, and evaporated milk. It made for a visually striking drink that paired nicely with the other hawker fare at the food centre.
Life Coffee no longer serves banh mi, despite the signage still up on the menu. However, their pivot to matcha lattes is certainly a welcome change to serve matchaholics in the area.
