Mee+ has affordable Malay dishes in Tampines

Good and affordable food is getting harder to find in Singapore these days, but we still managed to uncover a hidden gem in the East: Mee+, run by two friends, serves up no-frills lontong, mee rebus, and nasi lemak from just $3.80.

Tucked under an HDB block along Tampines Street 43, this humble eatery serves freshly prepared noodle dishes inspired by recipes from the owner’s mum. It’s only been open for a week, but it has already drawn strong support from nearby residents. The stall is also in the process of obtaining its halal certification.

The eatery is cosy with a small air-conditioned dining area that can fit around 14 diners, alongside an outdoor section that seats about six. Prices are kept wallet-friendly too, with nothing on the menu going above $4.50. Plus, everything is nett!

At Mee+, everything is made from scratch in-house, from the nasi lemak sambal to the mee rebus gravy. Their Mee Rebus ($3.80) seems to be a crowd favourite, featuring a thick sweet potato-based gravy paired with boiled egg, tau pok cubes, bean sprouts, spring onions, and green chilli.
For the same price, you can also get a bowl of Lontong, served with a generous portion of rice cakes, a whole boiled egg, sambal, and vegetables such as long beans, carrots, and cabbage, finished with spiced grated coconut. If you’re in the mood for something more comforting, their Mee Soto ($3.80) is a good pick, topped with shredded chicken, taugeh, and fried onions, doused in an aromatic spiced chicken broth.

The priciest item here is the Nasi Lemak ($4.50), which includes a crispy chicken wing, anchovies, fried egg, sambal, and cucumber. You can also zhng it up with add-ons such as Sambal Quail Egg $1.80), Hotdog (S$0.80), Plain Bagedil ($0.80), and Fishcake ($0.80) for a more filling meal.
