Maxi Coffee Bar Review: 4.7-Star CBD Cafe With Cereal Milk Latte And Specialty Coffee

In a time where new cafes and restaurants pop up ever so often, there’s a little spot near Chinatown that has been drawing crowds since its reopening. Maxi Coffee Bar is located just a four-minute walk from Maxwell MRT Station.

For some context, Maxi Coffee Bar first started as a hole-in-the-wall coffee counter at Emerald Garden in 2018, before moving to a cosy space at Ann Siang Hill in 2020. After abruptly closing in June 2025 due to a sudden landlord notice, the cafe returned in October 2025, reopening in a heritage shophouse just doors away on Club Street. The move also came with a bigger space and more dine-in seats.

Drinks at Maxi Coffee Bar

The most popular item on the menu is the Iced Cereal Milk Latte ($8), starring Maxi Coffee Bar’s house-made cereal milk and double espresso. This was my first time trying a drink like this. I’ve always been a fan of cereal with milk, especially that final sip of milk left behind after it has soaked up all the cereal’s flavour.

The latte had a subtle sweetness from the cornflake-infused milk, with a nutty depth that you don’t get from plain dairy milk. It paired well with the espresso, creating a drink that felt familiar yet different from the usual iced white.

Speaking of lattes, if you prefer something more conventional, you can opt for a Hot White (from $5) or Iced White ($7) instead. The espresso blend during our visit was the Ijen Lestari by The Dharmawan Family from East Java, with tasting notes of tropical fruit, mixed berries, and dark chocolate.

I opted for the 5oz milk option ($6). The default single shot of espresso made the drink a little too milky for my liking, so I’d either opt for the 3oz milk option ($5) or add an extra shot for just $0.50 on my next visit.

The Iced Black ($6.50) fared better on a hot afternoon. You can choose from two espresso options: Everyday (from $5) or Special (from $7). We went for the former, Waliki by the Rodriguez Family in Bolivia. This filter had tasting notes of soft lychee, nectarine, and floral notes.

It was slightly lighter than I expected, but remained smooth with a pleasant acidity.

Maxi also offers a small selection of filters that rotate seasonally. Our drink of choice was the Las Elisas ($8.50) by Benjamin Paz from Honduras, featuring tasting notes of apple, dried apricot, and honey.

This was a well-balanced, clean-tasting brew, with a subtle stone fruit sweetness that came through without overpowering the coffee’s natural flavours.

The drinks aren’t the only thing worth looking forward to; Maxi Coffee Bar also offers a small selection of made-to-order sammies that pair well with your coffee.

The Maxi Egg Muffin ($9.50) was a sleeper hit, featuring an English muffin layered with a baked omelette, cheese, and a piquant salted egg yolk sauce. It was so good that we ordered another one right after our first bite.

Ambience at Maxi Coffee Bar

Maxi Coffee Bar is housed in a heritage shophouse that blends a sleek, modern look with a warm, neighbourhood cafe vibe. When you step in, the friendly staff will take your order at the counter before you find a spot to settle down.

There’s cosy indoor seating by the coffee bar, or you can enjoy your drinks at the breezy alfresco patio if you prefer some fresh air. Just note that it can get a little humid outdoors, especially during the hotter afternoons.
