I love a good bowl of ban mian, so I was excited after stumbling upon Yi Xuan Handmade Banmian Eating House in a video recommended on my Instagram feed. This MacPherson eatery, which has been around for more than 20 years, is popular for its handmade noodle dishes.

Yi Xuan is located under a HDB block along Circuit Road, in the sleepy MacPherson estate. If you’re taking the train, alight at Mattar MRT Station, which is a short six-minute walk away.

The cheapest option is the Ban Mian Dry, priced at just $4. This hearty dish features a generous portion of handmade noodles, topped with minced pork, ikan bilis, and fresh greens, accompanied by a small bowl of soup. Online reviews praise the ban mian for its silky-smooth texture and nostalgic, old-school taste.

If you prefer soup, the Ban Mian Soup ($4) is a great choice for rainy days. The broth is on the lighter side, but you can top up $1 for extra ikan bilis if you want more flavour.

Other popular mains include Tom Yum Ban Mian ($5), Prawn U-Mian ($5), and Sour & Spicy Noodle ($4.50).

We recommend getting a plate of Dumplings to share. Priced at $5.50 for eight and $6.50 for 10, these handmade dumplings are available steamed or fried. According to Google reviews, they’re packed with juicy, well-seasoned meat, and the skin is neither too thick nor floury.
