Leong Wei, Kuchai

I’ve been meaning to check out the mutton curry noodles at Leong Wei in Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park but timing wasn’t always on my side. Jien and I finally tried it two weeks ago, early in the morning after school drop-off.

Mutton curry noodle stall at Leong Wei

We got to Leong Wei slightly before 8am so the weather wasn’t too humid to indulge in a robustly flavoured breakfast. Even so, I’m not used to eating such a heavy and spicy breakfast but it is the best time to do so without sweating buckets.

The stall that serves mutton curry noodles also offers pork rib noodles in clear broth for those who want something lighter. I did a takeaway for the pork rib noodles and tried it later that evening – it was quite tasty. Pork ribs were tender enough.

But the star remained the mutton curry noodles (RM13 – large); aromatic, well-spiced and robust in flavour. Mutton pieces were tender and the potato cubes were soft and fluffy. We opted for rice noodle for a change, and I enjoyed the texture. Not overly starchy and it didn’t water down the taste of the curry broth.

Stuffed chee cheong fun

We also tried the stuffed chee cheong fun from the stall located in front of Leong Wei, and it was quite commendable. I asked for prawn filling (RM9.50)which came with a side of spicy dried shrimp sauce. Prawns were sweet and crunchy, while the chee cheong fun was lightly chewy.

Yong tau foo and curry chee cheong fun

The yong tau foo stall seemed pretty popular so I ordered some to try. I didn’t care much for the chee cheong fun with curry gravy as it didn’t really have much flavour. Yong tau foo is decent – a little oily since it’s fresh from the fryer (total we paid was RM11.50).

Despite eating at Leong Wei early in the morning, I found it quite humid especially since we had mutton curry noodles. Also, some folks who sat outside lit up mid-way our meal so it got a bit uncomfortable (my eyes would turn red from second-hand smoke).
