Kajang’s new Shiren Coffee is a real treat for coffee enthusiasts who cherish genuine care and character poured into each cup.
With 15 years of professional experience in Malaysia’s coffee circuit, Shiren’s seasoned founder Tai brings an ethos of empathy, authenticity and humanity to his first independent caffeine bar.
Cradled on a calm back-lane near Kajang Stadium, a five-minute motorcycle ride from Tai’s home, Shiren’s touchstones are freshness, variety and value.
Tai roasts his beans Tuesdays and Wednesdays, serving them exclusively here five days a week, Thursday to Monday, and offering them to home brewers for purchase.
Chat with Tai first to figure out what to order.
Choices cater to a spectrum of preferences, with a current menu of eight single-origins that represent Colombia, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama, Ethiopia, Kenya and Malaysia, embracing light to medium to dark roasts.
Prices prove principled – espresso-based and filter coffees cost precisely the same, starting at RM9.50 for the El Salvadorian and Honduran.
The brews balance brightness and boldness, with subtleties that evolve elegantly from the first to final sip.
Shiren has no hot kitchen, but Tai offers other temptations – his own-fermented milk kefir conveys a creamy consistency, its complex cultures testifying with tangy vitality to its probiotic power. Also check out Tai’s gluten-free cheesecake if available.
Bookmark Shiren for a sanctuary of soulful simplicity, replacing Simple Cup Coffee at this address, kept clean and comfortable. Bonus points for the mini-library with titles that span The Blue Bottle Craft of Coffee to the Animal Planet Atlas of Animals.
The name? Shiren – 诗仁 – meaningfully reflects Tai’s reasons for running this space, for a poetic sense of self-expression through his coffee and to show compassion to every person who visits.
