Kajang Prison inmates’ RM12 kuih Raya takes social media by storm — sells out in just 2 weeks

For as long as I can remember, kuih Raya has always carried a hefty price tag — especially during the festive season. That’s why many families used to gather in the kitchen, rolling dough and dusting everything in flour, making their own treats before Raya.

But it’s 2025. Not everyone has the time (or patience) for that. So it’s surprising to see jars of kuih Raya being sold at such affordable prices — right from Kajang Prison.

Yes, you read that right. If you’ve been on social media, you might have caught wind of the recent buzz around kuih Raya made by inmates and sold through Galeri Produk My Pride, both in-store and online.

While this initiative isn’t exactly new, many were stunned to learn that you can simply walk into the gallery at Kajang Prison and shop for these treats like it’s your neighbourhood Raya bazaar.

Through these efforts, the inmates gain valuable skills and a sense of purpose, proving that second chances can be woven into every stitch and carved into every piece of wood.
