Hold up. We know odd and quirky ramen creations are always popping up in Japan, but piranha ramen?
Yes, you heard me. The world’s first Piranha Ramen (JP¥3000) is REAL, and it’ll be making an appearance at a four-day event in Tokyo, Japan, in September 2019.
Japanese event creators Holiday Jack initially came up with the idea of piranha ramen as an April Fool’s Joke. After being met with outrage and disappointment, they decided to turn it into reality.
They bought 300kg of edible piranha from the Amazon River — a move that shocked both Japanese customs officials and the ramen industry.
The ramen is prepared with 100% piranha broth and comes with the topping option of a whole deep-fried piranha (JP¥2500). That means a complete bowl will set you back JP¥5500, but hey, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Unsurprisingly, the event is being held at Ninja Cafe & Bar Asakusa, a wacky Ninja-themed restaurant with more than a couple tricks up their sleeve.
Only 100 bowls of this exclusive ramen will be served up on 20 September, the first day of the event. 300 servings will be available on each of the remaining days.
If you happen to be in Tokyo and are feeling unfazed, why not give this a try? Remember, don’t bite off more than you can chew.
