1. Papa Ayam

If you’re yet to try ayam geprek, it is essentially ayam penyet cooked with boneless chicken, then blanketed in sambal. Papa Ayam is one such eatery that brought this dish to Singapore, serving up renditions with salted egg yolk to suit our local palate.

Purists can opt for the Ayam Geprek Original ($7.90) that comes slathered with garlic sambal. There are 15 spice levels for this dish to choose from, with a $0.60 top-up for levels 11 to 15. If spice is not your forte, their Ayam Geprek Salted Egg ($8.70) makes for a safe option. These dishes are usually served with rice, though you can switch to Indomie.

Here, you can expect a good old Char-Grill Chicken Chop & Chicken Cheese Sausage ($19.90++) or Fish And Chips With Tartar Sauce ($19.90++). However, what differentiates Josh’s Grill from other restaurants is their unique sides, which include the likes of Mala Broccoli With Crushed Peanuts and Cheesy Butter Rice. Each main comes with two sides, otherwise, you can get them ala carte at $3.90++ each.

3. Ichikokudo Hokkaido Ramen

Another option for halal Japanese food in 313 Somerset is Ichikokudo Hokkaido Ramen, serving up halal ramen, donburi, and sides to go along with. A must-try is their Ichikokudo Ramen ($10.90++), starring a shoyu broth that’s simmered for hours using chicken bones. If you like some heat in your ramen, opt for the Hokkai Clams Ramen ($14.90++), which comes packed with clams and a slab of Hokkaido butter.

4. Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine

xiang-xiang-flatlay

Such is the popularity of Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine that they’ve got outlets just about everywhere, and the one at 313 is no exception. What sets this Xiang Xiang outlet apart, though, is its gorgeous nature-inspired interior and outlet-exclusives such as the Cheesy Sweet Potato ($7.90++) and Walnut Buns ($4++). But of course, all the classics are available here, too, including the Hunan Stir-Fried Pork ($22.90++). During our latest visit, we thoroughly enjoyed the Fresh Chili Spicy Prawn ($26.90++) and Mushroom & Shrimp Paste Soup ($12.90++).

11. Haidilao

Haidilao needs little introduction. The popular hotpot chain is where you can find plenty of meats, seafood, and other ingredients in broths such as Mala Milk, Tomato Soup, Sichuan Spicy, Three Delicacy, and Mushroom Soup. Recently, we got to try Pork’s Blood Curd (price TBD) at Haidilao, launching at all outlets in late May 2026. This comes after the reversal of a 27-year ban on the dish. It’s likely to be a tasty addition to the usual Haidilao repertoire—that is, if you dare to eat it.

With a minimum order of 10 pieces, they are best paired with the Viral Mixed Sauce with Chilli Oil La Mian—this combination will set you back $11.80.
