Walk along a row of densely-packed buildings in New York City, and you’ll come across a humble eatery with just these words placed at its window: Singapore Social. This is a new restaurant serving tons of Singaporean classics, including chicken rice, laksa, and nasi lemak. But be warned: the prices here are understandably higher than what you’d pay in Singapore

The menu is filled with local appetisers, mains, and desserts to choose from. Our bona fide national dish is, of course, one of the specialities here—I’m talking about the Roasted Chicken Rice (USD23/SGD29.37). For fans of steamed chicken rice, arguably the superior option, you’re out of luck here.

The Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah (USD25/SGD31.92) is another hearty main dish available here. All the key elements here: a pile of fragrant coconut rice, a large spiced chicken leg, anchovies, roasted peanuts, and sunny-side-up egg.

Other main options include Laksa (USD24/SGD30.64) and Bakmi Keriting (USD18/SGD22.98). But don’t forget to try the Kaya Toast (USD6/SGD7.66), Chicken Satay (USD16/SGD20.43), and Cendol (USD12/SGD15.32) for a taste close to home. So if you’re a Singaporean living in the Big Apple, this is one spot you’ll definitely want to check out.
