Two Men Bagel House Review: Loaded Bagel Sandwiches Under $20 In Katong

I remember trying and falling in love with Two Men Bagel House a long while ago, when they first opened their Tanjong Pagar flagship in 2014. The experience was a life-changing one: the bagels were perfectly baked, packed with so much savoury goodness that I could even split one with a friend.

Back then, there weren’t many bagel shops around, so the homegrown brand was considered one of the pioneers of Singapore’s bagel scene. Today, Two Men Bagel House is a stalwart in Singapore’s ever-changing F&B landscape, having survived 12 years and expanded to five outlets islandwide. For this review, we visited their Joo Chiat cafe.

Food at Two Men Bagel House

Let’s start with my usual order: The Great Swisse ($17+). I went with the Cheddar & Jalapeno bagel flavour for this sandwich.

This is a solid pick if you’re in the mood for something hearty and savoury without feeling too jelak. The combination of the meaty house-made fennel pork patty and wild mushrooms, paired with nutty Emmental cheese, was a winner. Rounding things out was a generous amount of peppery arugula and piquant spicy aioli, which helped cut through the richness.

For something more decadent, consider the outlet-exclusive Boss Hogg ($17+). We went with the Garlic & Onion bagel for this order, which proved to be the right choice as it added another layer of umami to the already indulgent sandwich.

The hefty bagel was stuffed with BBQ pulled pork, a mac & cheese patty, and pickled red cabbage. While I enjoyed the creamy pasta element, I found the pork a tad dry. The pickled veggies were a nice addition, adding a much-needed tang to balance out everything.

A unanimous favourite at our table was the Personal Best ($17+), which we paired with a Blueberry bagel. According to the server who took my order, this is a must-get combination.

And he wasn’t wrong. The sandwich comes packed with a chunk of Spam, Skippy peanut butter, sunny-side-up egg, hashbrown, and spicy aioli, creating a surprisingly satisfying mix of sweet and savoury, all in one bite. I can imagine this being the perfect late-night meal after a night out with friends, especially when you need something hearty to nurse a post-hangover craving.

Speaking of nursing hangovers, coffee is a must-have for me. Thankfully, there’s an option to top up $7+ for what they call the Happiest Meal, which comes with a coffee and a side to complete your bagel experience.

I’m a picky coffee drinker, and their Iced Latte (U.P. $7.50+) gets my stamp of approval.

There’s also the option to build your own bagel sandwich, but as a chronically indecisive person, I prefer sticking with the tried-and-tested classics.

Ambience at Two Men Bagel House

Two Men Bagel House’s Joo Chiat cafe gives off a grungy, underground vibe, with dark wood furnishings, quirky posters, and a lively playlist. It can get busy and noisy during peak meal times, especially on weekends, so it may not be the best spot for a cosy tête-à-tête.

The outlet is an eight-minute walk from Marine Parade MRT Station.

Two Men Bagel House — Eatbook review

I’ll say it here: Two Men Bagel House remains one of the best spots for loaded bagel sandwiches in Singapore. Overall, the bagels themselves strike the perfect balance between chewy and dense, without feeling overly heavy or overpowering in flavour. They make a great base for the generous fillings packed inside.

With most mains priced under $20 and five outlets islandwide, the homegrown brand is a solid choice if you’re craving something hearty without breaking the bank.
