Cheevit Cheeva is a Thai-famous dessert cafe in Johor Bahru
Whenever I’m cafe hopping in Johor Bahru, I keep an eye out for new places to check out in Mount Austin, as cool, trendy cafes constantly sprout up in the neighbourhood. Cheevit Cheeva, which has six branches across Malaysia including one specifically in JB, is a new addition to the area. Hailing from Chiang Mai, Thailand, this popular dessert cafe is known for Thai shaved ice desserts.
The current exchange rate is RM1 = ~S$0.30 as of 21 March 2025.

We had to try their signature Shokupan Thai Tea Sang-Ka-Ya Bingsu (RM34) first, featuring a pile of cha yen-infused shaved ice topped with crispy, bite-sized shokupan bits and thick Thai tea cream.
This indulgent dessert was the perfect treat to have on a sweltering day. We enjoyed the strong, fragrant Thai tea-infused bingsu so much that we felt the shokupan wasn’t necessary. FYI, a bowl of this is ideal for sharing among three or four people! If Thai tea isn’t your thing, consider their Salty Egg Yolk Bua-Loi Bingsu (RM35) instead.
Another delicious dessert worth trying is the newly launched Dubai Dream Toast (RM39). We thought of getting the Toast Pandan Sang-Ka-Ya (RM32) but quickly changed our minds when we saw the promotional poster for the kunafa flavour.
You get a thick, fluffy shokupan topped with crispy pistachio kunafa, chocolate and pistachio drizzles, and a dollop of vanilla ice cream covered in crushed pistachio bits. The textural variety in this single toast was memorable, but just a word of caution: get this only if you have a sweet tooth as it gets a tad cloying towards the end. It also helps if you share it with two or three friends!
Cheevit Cheeva boasts a cool, well-lit space adorned with green and brown accents. It momentarily felt like we were in Chiang Mai especially with its set-up of camping chairs outside, great for dining at on a windy evening!
