Getting paid to sleep sounds like the ultimate dream job and one company in Singapore is making this a reality.
In an Instagram post on Monday (July 7), lifestyle furniture retailer Yogibo shared that they are in the midst of hiring people to nap — or Nap Leaders, as they call them.
“We’re looking for Professional Nappers — yes, this is real,” Yogibo wrote, adding that the position will run from July to September.
All the chosen Nap Leaders have to do is take a snooze on Yogibo’s beanbag.
Not only that, free coffee is provided, and participants will also be paid $7 per hour.
To apply, one need only message Yogibo on their social media account and share why you want the job.
Keen participants need not submit a resume, nor do they need to have any “experience”.
Yogibo stated that they will “randomly select” a few applicants for an interview, but noted.
Only two to three Nap Leaders will be hired.
“It’s a limited-time gig, so don’t snooze on this. Slide into our direct messages now — before someone else naps your dream job,” said Yogibo.
A spokesperson from Yogibo told AsiaOne that they had organised the campaign for the job to “challenge the traditional idea that retail spaces are only for shopping”.
“This campaign is about promoting the value of rest as a part of daily life.
“With the theme ‘free coffee, free nap, free your mind’, we hope to introduce a refreshing new form of wellness-driven retail to Singapore,” they said.
The spokesperson also explained that Nap Leaders will take naps for approximately two to three hours per day, starting from around 12.30pm.
They are expected to work two to three days per week, based on a “flexible shift schedule”.
Participants will get to nap in a designated area within the store that is visible to customers and passersby.
“During nap time, we dim the lights to create a calm and restful atmosphere, making it an inviting space for both the Nap Leader and visitors,” the spokesperson elaborated.
As for why coffee is served during the experience, Yogibo explained that there is a concept known as a “coffee nap,” which has been gaining popularity in Japan.
“It involves taking a short nap, followed by a cup of coffee, which is said to enhance alertness and mental clarity.
We incorporated this idea into the campaign to help Nap Leaders recharge both mind and body,” they said.
While no specific qualifications are needed, Yogibo shared that they are looking for people who appreciate the importance of rest and relaxation, feel comfortable napping in public, and are friendly and open to casual interaction with their customers.
They also confirmed that they are planning to hire only two to three Nap Leaders for the full duration of the campaign from July to September. They will take turns based on availability.
“However, if the campaign receives great response, we may consider increasing the number of hires,” said the spokesperson.
