There’s A New Japanese-Run Onigiri Shop At Fortune Centre

Onigiri GON is a new onigiri eatery at Fortune Centre

Fortune Centre is brimming with underrated food gems, including Yuen Kee Dumpling and Bao Er Cafe. This time, we’re shining the spotlight on Onigiri GONO, the mall’s newest entrant.

Located on the first floor of Fortune Centre, the new Japanese eatery is run by a Fukuoka native. The space is small and cosy, seating about 15 diners inside, with a few tables just outside.

There are 20 onigiri flavours to choose from, each handmade fresh onsite.

If you’re here for lunch, order the Onigiri Set Meal, priced from $13.90 for your choice of two onigiri, a bowl of miso soup, and a side of pickles.

Prices start at $4.90 for a freshly made onigiri, with fillings such as Ume, Konbu, and Okaka: soy-marinated bonito flakes. The next tier is priced at $5.90, with options ranging from Mentaiko Mayo to an assortment of meats, including Niku Soboro (soy-glazed minced meat) and Spicy Tori Kaga (spicy fried chicken). The most expensive ongiri goes for $6.90, loaded with fillings such as Ebi Tempura and Spicy Salmon.

There’s also the option to customise your onigiri with additional ingredients for a small top-up.

Onigiri GON is a three-minute walk from Bencoolen MRT Station. As the eatery has limited seats, we recommend visiting during off-peak hours to avoid the crowd.
